I have a great deal of admiration for what Jordan Peele was going for, and I will say some of the punches landed. This film was gutsy, ambitious, brutal, emotional, and visceral. Lupita Nyong’o was OUTSTANDING in her dual roles, with a richly-layered performance that shone above the rest. The movie was also technically brilliant, from the chilling score and sound design, to the riveting cinematography and shot-selection, but the execution of the story itself simply did not work for me.
There were far too many leaks in the plot that could not quite be plugged by the bandages of its mechanical magnificence. The overall tone and direction felt uncommitted and foundationally flawed. The narrative…
