The geniuses behind marvelously wacky projects like The Lego Movie bring another memorable film to the table: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Directors Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman are supported by screenwriter Phil Lord to deliver this tale that shows us the first mixed-race superhero in a film’s lead role, Miles Morales, the Spider-Man for a new generation.
There are so many things incredible things to be said about this film. I was completely blown away by the outrageous fun I had during my viewing. Still, there’s far more to this movie than a mindless escape.
There was the remarkably unique animation style, truly bringing the wonderfully ridiculous nature of comic books to life on the big screen. The complex story was simplified into a comprehendible narrative, told in an extraordinarily entertaining, amusing, and self-aware fashion.
From there, you had the rich soundtrack perfectly complimenting the style and themes.
